About This Chapter
Mr. Qu'an keeps pestering Little Ge, demanding to know what's going on with him. Little Ge says that he's too lenient with him, and that he might end up becoming greedy and insatiable. He says that even though he seems to be willing lately, he feels insecure and wants to leave him. He tells Little Ge that between those two people, one is "willing to inflict" on the other, and the other "is willing to suffer." Little Ge tells him that he came out with him because he wanted to hear his experience of coming out. He asks if he worries that the family will be upset by his coming out, and he says that although he never asked for help, there were times when he would come back from a trip and his mood wouldn't be right. He also says that, although the family cut off his income, they didn't do anything else besides that. The family scandal, he says, is considered a "family scandal." How can an outsider know the details, and how can he possibly know the family's secrets? He suggests that if the family doesn't cooperate, he should ask the family directly, but the family won't tell him the truth, so he suggests that he just be more sly and ask him directly instead. He then asks if she can actually do this, and she says that she clearly rejected the invitation, so she's not sure why she still wanders around aimlessly. She asks him if she should go in to check on the man who's waiting for her, but he says he'll stay and wait for her. She tells him to come inside and have some tea with her, since she already knows the man.
