In this chapter, we are introduced to Mr. Guppy and his friend, Mr. Cai, who are both in love with each other. They are in the middle of a dance party at a bar in New York City. They decide to meet up later in the evening, and Mr. Huppy invites Mr. Bai to join them. He tells his friend that he has been looking for little ge all along, and now he has found him. He explains that since he found out that he liked men, everyone has told him that it is wrong and sinful, and he has fought against it, but his resistance has not changed anyone. He says that he is the one who has burdened his mother with all her problems.
