"A Fool's Story" The narrator tells us that he's not tall if he doesn't eat. He's a sickly kid who's been treated well by his family. The narrator says that he didn't realize that his sister was competing with other girls for his affections until she was older. He says that when he was younger, she would give him a headache, but now he realizes that she's competing for his heart. He warns her not to be a "drag on me" , because he has a goal that needs to be achieved. He tells her to keep her nose out of the adult's "business" . She's already had a lot of things in life, he says, but she keeps sticking to it. He finally realizes that her goal is to have a face, something he hadn't seen before. She says she'll have a baby in two years, and he says he'll give her some tips to help her achieve her goal. The two of them go for a walk together on the beach. It's windy, and the narrator can't see his sister's expression. He starts to envy the other men around him, including his brother. He asks the narrator how he grew up so protected since he was a kid, but the narrator points out that it's nice to be protected since you're a kid. But he suddenly has an expectation tomorrow. He wants to prove to his sister that he has something special in her heart, or at least by her side. He tries to practice kissing scenes with other men, but he'd have to wait for her.
