In this short scene, Jim tries to convince himself that his mother is not drinking and that he is not a danger to her. He tells her that he will not let her perform on stage because she is so important to him. He then goes on to say that if he had known this, he would not have asked her to watch him perform. He says that he has been working so hard to find something he loves now and he hopes that he does not let his mother down.
