About This Chapter
When the narrator arrives at the house, he is greeted by his mother, who tells him that women are "such magical creatures" . She tells him to bring up his "proud dish" , which is a dish she has prepared for her daughter, who is visiting her. He tells her that his daughter is going to spend the weekend with her, and he invites her to come and eat with him. The narrator tells his mother that she is the "veeeeery first friend" of his son, who brought her home with him, and that she will be spending time with him this weekend. He then tells her to sit on the couch and eat some fruit, as he will bring some fruit later. He says that he will do so when he is done eating. When he is finished eating, the narrator tells her about her collection of skirts. When she was pregnant with her son, she dreamed that she would have a skirt that was twice as cute as the one she had when she gave birth to him, but it turned out that he was a boy. She still has the skirts that he wore when he was three, and she is happy to see that he is wearing them now. She is so happy that she feels like she is complimenting herself for having made him wear the skirts.
