This chapter opens with a conversation between Zongtang and Lockwood. Lockwood tells Lockwood that he has just caught a man who took part in bidding for a project on the West Coast and left the company without bidding. Lockwood wonders if the man is the mastermind behind Lockwood's actions. Lockwood assures him that he will find the man and arrange him properly. Lockwood says that he cannot believe that someone would be plotting against the company for so long. He says that someone has been trying to take the company down for a long time, and that the man Lockwood has caught is just the latest in a long line of pawns. Lockwood thinks that the woman Lockwood is talking about is just as ferocious as she is, and he wants to know if she really thinks that she can do anything she wants. Lockwood warns Lockwood not to worry about the plummeting share price of the company.
