The scene opens with a conversation between the father and son. The father tells his son that he has just seen an interesting man and that he should not listen to his mother's criticism of him. The son tells his mother that the man is from the same family as his father and that his name is "Gu zongtang" . He tells his father that he did not expect his mother to be jealous of him, especially when he is married and thinking of another man. The mother tells him that he is not interested in her son and that she does not follow him. She says that she has always kept her nose clean and that her son is the only one she loves. She tells the son that she will prove his innocence if he does not believe her
