As the scene opens, the protagonist is late for work. He's glad to be home, because he's going to start planning his next move. He can't believe how lucky he is to have met the man who escaped from prison. He also realizes that he has been hanging out with the girl he met the day before, and that she's now with the man he met in prison. The protagonist is shocked to learn that the two of them have been hanging around together for a while. He asks if they're following their boyfriend to find the murderer. They're not, because they don't have the money to do so. They can borrow money from the protagonist, but he won't give them the money he needs to buy liquor. He tells the protagonist that the gang has already robbed him, and he'll have to fight them to get the money back. He begs the protagonist to help him escape, but the protagonist refuses, saying that he doesn't want to hurt the gang by fighting them. He says that he was injured by the robber, and the gang needs to go see a doctor.
