About This Chapter
The doctor tells the young man that his mother raised him and that without her, he would not have been born. He tells him that he and his mother are both "unlovable" and "unpleasant" and that he attached himself to a "rich father" and is now "presuming" that he is his mother's son. The doctor asks if he is the family of the young woman who has come to the hospital to have a "chemotherapy" . The young man says that he does not want her to die, but that he wants to make a "clean break" with the man. He says that the man can call him his "puppy" if he wants, but he is not sure if the man will lend him the money. He asks the doctor why he called him at this hour, and the doctor replies that he was at the hospital, treated him dinner, and allowed him to stay at his place
