About This Chapter
In this chapter, the narrator and Hinana discuss their relationship. Hinana is upset that the two of them are having to talk about it on her birthday, and the narrator feels sorry for her. He tells her that he has finally gotten permission from his parents to start playing the piano. He feels guilty about hurting his image, but the truth is that he's hurting Hinana's, too, because she's now going to have to figure out her own path in life. The narrator tells Hinana that he loves her, but that he doesn't approve of her relationship with mikuru because he thinks that she'll grow up into a confident, awe-inspiring woman. He says that even though he thinks she will grow up to be a strong, confident woman, he'll still approve of the relationship if he thinks it's a perfect match.
