About This Chapter
In this chapter, Shmoop introduces us to a young girl named Suzu, who has just returned from a visit with her grandmother. Suzu's father, Ayase, is still asleep, and she tells him that she and her sister are back from their summer vacation, and that everyone is talking about the fact that they're in a new movie together. She tells him she'd like to send an e-mail to her father asking him to send her an update, but he's too busy to do so. She asks him if she can go with her family to the castle where they'll be taking pictures for the new movie. She's bummed that she's not allowed to dress up like a princess in the castle, but Suzu says she'll go anyway, since they've been reserved for a movie shoot. She also tells him about how cute she is in her maid costume, and how cool it is that it's her grandmother's prince in the movie. He's also wearing a wedding dress, and Suzu thinks that's pretty cool. She says she wants to go have a "ciga rette" , so she can change into a different outfit before she goes out. She thinks that it would be a good thing she didn't wear a gown, since it would make her more suited to the clothes she was wearing. She wants to look at souvenirs from the wedding, but she doesn't want to go past the smoking area of the castle because she thinks she might run into her sister, who lives in a different part of the city. She wonders if she should hug her sister instead of going out with her father.
