The next morning, the two young men discuss the plot of the previous chapter. They discuss the fact that they have missed the first part of the plot, which is supposed to take place in the underground passageway between the two houses. They wonder why they have not been able to catch the second part, which takes place in a separate room. When they finally catch up, they find that the passageway is empty, and they are left wondering what has happened to the plot.
