The next morning, Mr. Gu and Mr. Hu meet at the train station. Gu is upset that he has to go all the way to Shanghai to see his old friend. He wants to know why he is being treated so poorly. He also wants to find out why the waiter gave him so much money to pay for the food. He asks the waiter if he can have a table for two, but the waiter tells him that there are so many empty tables that it's impossible to get a table. Gu tells the waiter that he doesn't know his preference for food, so he ordered some dishes that the waiter recommended. The waiter adds some extra bowls and chopsticks, and Gu tells him to add some cakes to his plate as well. He says that he's allergic to mango, which is his favorite food. Gu apologizes for being so rude, and says that this is the first time they've had a meal together in a long time. He reminds the waiter of their reunion dinner when he was a child, when they had to go back and forth between Shanghai and Hong Kong. Gu asks if the waiter is thinking about it, and the waiter replies that he is thinking now. Gu says that they haven't been able to talk about it any other day, and that he hopes they can have dinner again sometime later. He thanks the waiter for walking him to the restaurant, and asks him to take care of his friend, who is waiting for him.
