The scene opens with a sweet potato, and the narrator tells us that he'd like to have two of these. He's just gotten back from quarreling with his mom, and he's glad to be reunited with her. He tells her to be careful around the hot sun, and to be quiet when she's talking to him. He also tells her not to put on a fake smile when they're talking to each other, because that'll make her look like a total jerk. The narrator then asks if his mom is all right, and she says no. The doctor said there's nothing to worry about, so they shouldn't worry about her at all. He asks if they should go to see his mom now that her mom's back, and they both agree that it's a good idea. He then asks why he cares so much about his mom when she hasn't had anything to do with him in a long time. He wants her to know that he doesn't love her, and that she deserves to be left out of his life. He goes on to tell the narrator that he can cheat, but he can't deceive himself.
