The chapter opens with a flashback to the previous chapter, in which Hirokazu's sister, Ellie, is introduced. Ellie has been staying with her family in Canada during the summer break, and she and her brother, Mark, are planning to go to Japan to visit their father. The flashback shows that Ellie's brother, Hirokaze, has been jealous of Ellie and has been making up stories about her. Hirokaz asks Ellie if she has seen pictures of her sister, and Ellie replies that she has only seen them on the internet. She also tells him that she is half Japanese and half Japanese-American, and that she hopes to marry him one day. She tells him to borrow her cup of tea from him, and he agrees to let her borrow the cup for a little while. He tells Ellie that he is going to stay for the night, but that they are going to order some food from an online store. When Ellie notices that they have ordered food from the store, she asks if it is the same food that she used to have when she was a child. She then asks if the food is thick enough to make a lasagna, and the two of them agree that it is. They start by boiling some spinach, and then add some parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper to the mixture. They then let the spinach cool in the pan, and when they are done, they are ready to eat.
