Okay, now we're back in the classroom. Okay, so this is the first time we've been introduced to a lot of the characters we'll meet in the rest of the novel. First off, it's pretty obvious that this chapter is set in a school cafeteria. We're told that the cafeteria is a place where students gather to eat, drink, socialize, and generally have a good time. It's also a place that students often go to get their homework done. So, yeah, this chapter's going to have a lot to do with homework. We also learn that there's a whole bunch of other stuff going on in the cafeteria, too, like the fact that the students are eating ice cream and drinking coffee all the time. This is a big deal, because apparently, ice cream isn't supposed to be cold or bitter. The boys are psyched to get ice cream, but they're also psyched to have coffee, too. They're both psyched that they can have coffee and ice cream at the same time, but the boys are bummed out that they don't have ice cream to share with their friends. They decide that they'll trade half of their ice cream for half of the coffee jelly, and then they can play dodgeball together before they head back to school.
