About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's been invited to spend the new year in the town of hokkaido, where they'll be eating "osechi" , a Japanese dish. He's not sure how they're going to manage to eat all of the food, but he does manage to make a few tasty dishes, like "scenty yam" and "kuchi nashi" . The narrator says that he hopes they can keep making these dishes next year, since they've only been eating them for the past year's anniversary of his mother's death. He asks if they still have time to make the dishes, and they agree that they do. They'll have lunch together, too, and the narrator says he hopes to see them again next year. He says he hasn't seen the dishes since the first year of her death, and thanks the narrator for bringing them. He wants to see an album of her music, but the narrator doesn't know where to find it, so he'll go look for it.
