In this chapter, the narrator reflects on how he has been numbed by the "dark side of showbiz" and how he now has to lower his "moral bottom line" in order to stay in the good graces of the influentials. He is worried about his fiancee, who is rumored to be a "black hole" and no one will gossip about her. He decides to take a picture of her and make up a whole story about her, so that no one can find out about her scandalous past.
