The chapter opens with a description of how qianye has been applying for military missions in succession. He seems to be "born a warrior, a killer" . The narrator tells us that stoma nan Batian is worried that his force practice will lag behind, but that he can't stop "the reputation" of this young man. He says that there was a war between the dark tribe and the empire a decade ago, but the empire encountered an "unprecedented battle of despair" , and that linxitang led the north army through the "death star road" and miraculously appeared on the battlefield. He tells the narrator that he will show him his cooking skills when he is free, and the narrator agrees. The chapter ends with the narrator telling us that the red scorpion is the "top dog" of the army and that he has gone on a mission with this dog once in a ten-year period. He asks the narrator if he has any plans for the next day.
