The chapter opens with a flashback to the previous chapter, in which Dr. Bledsoe explains that he and the other survivors have come to the city in order to find and kill the remaining vampire. He explains that the vampire has already killed one of the survivors, and the others will be responsible for killing the remaining survivors if there is another attack on them. The flashback then shifts to the present time, where the survivors are waiting for their turn to attack the remaining vampires
