About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a flashback to the beginning of the story, when the protagonist is a young boy who has been saved from drowning by his father. He is now a young man and has dedicated his whole life to saving his father's life. He has dedicated all his time and energy to his father, but he has been prevented from entering the stove room by the officer. The protagonist is angry and tells the officer that he will die in three days if he does not leave the room. The officer tells the protagonist that he has arrived at the ninth fatty, and the protagonist tells him to wash the dishes and go away from the room where the officer has been hiding. He also tells him that the officer looks sinister when he leaves the room, and that he should not go into the room unattended. He orders the protagonist to stay in the room with the officer, but the protagonist does not want to leave because he knows the officer will not dare to enter the room for training. He warns the protagonist about the smell of the ganoderma, which he has just tasted, and he tells the boy to eat it. The boy eats it and is very happy. He says that he thinks it is safe for him to keep eating, because he is so full. He tells the other boy to have another bite, and they eat it together.
