At the beginning of this chapter, Milady tells us that she and her mother are trapped in a cave. Milady's grandmother has been crushed under a large rock, and Milady is afraid that her mother is also trapped. She begs her father to come rescue them, but he still hasn't come. She tells him that she's too weak to do so, and he promises to find her something to eat. She says that she thinks she sees her mother smiling in the dark, but her mother looks very weak. She gives Milady some meat, but Milady doesn't eat it, and she has to wait for her mother's voice to grow weaker and weaker. Finally, one day, a ray of sunlight comes up and brings Milady and her father home.
