The poem opens with a soliloquy in which the narrator laments the loss of life caused by love. He laments that love is a curse on the heart, and that regret has come too late. He sighs for a beautiful woman who was 50 years old and beautiful, but she wasted her life for a man. He realizes that there is another wall behind the cave, and there are carvings on it as well. He wonders if it is the same wall with the words "the grisly blood mantra" written on it. The legend says that it is a powerful spell that can turn all blood into a grisly spell. The two men spend a few days in the cave. They try to save as much food as they can, but the food runs out quickly. They run out of water, and the girl looks a bit wanner. The narrator asks the girl to promise him that if he dies within seven days, he will eat his flesh and blood.
