The wolves begin to tease each other about the wolf's back legs, and when the wolf sees that the fox is taking the wolves to a god, he jumps up and runs away. He tells the wolves not to run away from him, because he will get in trouble if they do, and he tells them to stop running away. When the wolves hear that the warashi is selling his house, they run off to get the wolf.
