When the tiger finally dies, it's because the emperor has failed to stab it in the heart. He's afraid that she's going to die, and he begs the emperor to save her. The emperor tells the doctor that he can't save her, but he'll try to keep her alive as long as he can. The doctor says that it will take a while for him to come to the rescue, but the emperor says he can save her until the doctor arrives. He gives her medicine to drink, and then he asks the emperor if he canceled his previous engagement to her because she'd canceled his last one. He says that he's always wanted to tell the emperor that he broke his heart, but that the emperor still sacrificed his life to save him. Now, watching the emperor suffer like this, he realizes that he won't be able to do anything to stop him, and so he promises to protect him next time.
