He's been infatuated with a girl named Madame Moyun, and he's trying to figure out why she's summoned to his palace. He tells her that Madame Dowager told him that she'd find another eligible bachelor to marry, and that's why she has to come to the palace. She's so lucky, he tells her, because she'll be able to see if she can figure out what's going on between him and her. He also tells her to get to know her better, since she seems like a mature girl, and she should get used to the fact that he'll never make her his princess. Madame Mo Yun tells him that the empress gave her a handkerchief, which is of "unparalleled exquisiteness" and "extraordinary intricacy" . She tells him to get it back immediately, because if he doesn't, Madame Domwager will punish him. She also tells Madame Moyan to kneel down and beg her to keep the handkerchief just between her and her, so that she won't get mad at her for throwing it away.
