When the scene opens, Duansheng is sitting on the bench outside his house. He's worried about his house arrest and is worried about how he's going to get out of it. He doesn't know what to do. He wants to get away from his wife, but she won't let him. He tells her to enjoy the scenery with him, and he promises to be patient with her.
