The next morning, Madame Moyun wakes up and tells Lanzhi that the emperor has ordered her to come to his mother's house to see if she can cough up some phlegm. Lanzhi tells her that he thinks the emperor needs a doctor and that Madame Poyun needs to get her cough under control ASAP. She tells him that if he does, she will marry him. She then tells him about the prince, whom she calls "the younger brother" of the emperor. The prince is a "martial prodigy" who has been "ruling our country wisely" and who has protected our land "bravely" . He is also a great warrior, Lanzhi says, and he has been protecting the country from foreign invasion since the time of the Ming dynasty. Madame Po Yun is worried that Lanzhi has taken a fancy to the prince. She asks him to take a chair and rest.
