This chapter opens with a flashback to the previous chapter, in which Ren tells us that he was once a member of a yellow-flame iron guard. He tells Ren that he resigned from his previous job because he was related to Ren's family history, and that someone was on their way. The two of them are the hermit and the golden crow, and Ren says that he won't be able to escape. The hermit is enchanted by the cross on his chest, and he seems familiar. The golden crow seems familiar to Ren because he seems to be one with nature. Ren says he can't kill the hermit, because he still has to get rid of the primordial lord. The primordial lord critically wounded Ren. Ren wants the golden-crow war soul to come over to him, but he doesn't want to kill her over his dead body. He says that the war soul is the same thing as dying. Ren asks if it's possible that the hermit is Mingyang, the famous divine doctor. Ren tells him that his spiritual qi has already been sealed, so he's the only one in the room. He asks Ren what he wants to do. Ren apologizes for causing him so much worry, and says that she's his little girlfriend, so Ren should have told him sooner. Ren replies that she isn't their mission, but that Ren must compensate him. Ren then asks when Ren joined the yellow- flame iron guard, and when he did, he says that it was a long time ago. Ren is confused, because his family history is
