The man refuses the watch, saying it is too expensive, but the man promises to exchange it for a cowhide. The young man introduces himself as "yang yunfan" , or "lord shaman" . He explains that his mother has been afflicted by a terrible plague, which causes her to shake rhythmically ever since her father died. He is a doctor, and he offers to try to cure her mother's ailment. He tells the young man that there are only five tribes in the entire river, and that the dus tribe had never had a lord shaman before. He says that he is equal to the chiefs, and they can kill him or get rid of him without cause. He wants to insert a needle into her waist, and she says she doesn't look "pure africans" to him. She explains that the tribe's ancestors are from the "huaxia" tribe, and this explains why they don't all look like pure Africans. He thanks the lord shaman for breaking the curse, and tells the girl to stay and entertain him. The girl says she will leave the leopard to the girl. She says that it is hard for her to feed her and her two other sisters, because she is a gaburi, or lord, and the strongest warrior
