This chapter's opening scene takes place in a wood shed. It's the same wood that was used to build Eden's house. The two of them are talking in the wood shed, and one of them asks the other if he's going to save Dr. Bledsoe. The other says that he just wants to save the doctor's life. He doesn't understand why the other guy is stealing all of his stuff, especially when he knows that he'll be able to use it against the doctor in the future. He's also worried about the girl, because she's such a nice girl, and he'd kill her if anyone touched her. He tells her that she'll have to learn to be nice to him, and that they have similar feet, so they'll both be on his side. He asks if the girl is her friend, and she says that no one gets out of the woods alive.
