About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's one of the few people in the world who's not afraid to take a "long tramp" to "rome" . He's also one of those "people" who likes to do things his own way. He likes to ride horses, play golf, and play snooker. He says that his father wants him to follow the path his father has laid out for him, but he always feels out of place among the "elegant hobbies" his father forced upon him . The narrator says that he doesn't know how to play the game anymore, because no one wants to be friends with him anymore. He also says that if it were someone else, he'd win two games from him as an amateur, and that's enough to convince his father to let him play for a living. He adds that he wants to open a "club training young people" , and he says that the future of the game depends on the younger generation after the World Cup .
