About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a conversation between Roger, a professional billiards player, and Guotao, a former student of Roger's. Roger complains that he was not invited to dinner when he asked if he was hungry, and that he is now forced to cook for his guest. He also complains about the fact that his mother ran away from home with another man, so he had to learn a new skill to survive. He tells Roger that he does not know how to cook, but Roger assures him that he will be able to do so at his own pace. Roger tells the story of how jinghua has been back at the academy for years, and how wu has been training in a school called Sheffield College. Roger says that si has set himself a "devilish training plan" , which involves finding the "strictest coach" and leaving him alone and getting out of the house. He says that he plans to beat cheng this afternoon, and then go to a movie with him after they beat the challenger. He then tells them that cheng has come back to challenge them all in turns. He had won the youth world championship in the past, and he wants to meet them all, too. Roger is embarrassed to tell the story, but he tells it anyway, saying that he has become overly confident in his own abilities after learning from Roger for so long. He wants to challenge cheng once more, and so he will go first.
