In this chapter, Baixiong asks Hangzhou why he is still doing geometry after his heart surgery. He tells him that it is almost impossible for a person with his condition to become a good teacher. He also asks if he is interested in learning billiards. He says that he has been taking the pills to keep his mind in a better state. He adds that if he needs any help, he will be happy to ask. He then asks if it means that he is cured of his heart condition. He replies that it was a success, and that he had been taking his pills for peace of mind. He goes on to say that Shushan has been hiding his condition from the club all this time because he wants to be treated as a professional. Shushan thinks that no one believed that he could become a professional, and so he was concerned about gaining and losing. He asks if this is excessive care, and Shushan replies that he does not want to get him mad. They then discuss Shushan's heart condition, which Shushan says is "just cool" because it is a scarred man, who does not give in to the opinions of others. He compares himself to people who are far ahead of him, who do not believe in him. If he were afraid to lose, he would just keep on on with his fear.
