About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a forty-second pour of blood, nails and hair turning into a transparent bead. It must be the scent of "xiaohua" . It's been forty days since the bead was poured, and now it's time to put it into the bath. The chapter ends with the narrator lamenting that in seven days no one will be able to enter the house. He's already covered the window with a cloth and sealed the door with a piece of black cloth. He wonders if the ancients didn't realize that nails were made of keratin, which is the same substance that makes bones. He doesn't know why the urgency was so great, but he's not sure. The narrator is worried about the sound coming from the window. He wishes he could put a camera in the window, but doesn' t want to risk ruining the "spell" by ruining the sound of the bead. He also worries that he hasn't slept well in the last few days. He thinks he fell asleep during a yoga lesson. His brother, jiang, called for a moving company, and the narrator says he recorded the whole thing down in his book.
