In this chapter, we learn how to make a new xiaohua using the "man-making" technique. She uses a dark room, a large tank, and a special kind of incense to make the body of the man she's about to imitate. She fills the tank with raw meat and medicinal herbs, and then uses a special "venation-based poison" called "gold silkworm" to poison the body for 39 days. She tells her sister that the raw meat she bought has already been frozen, so it's okay to put the gu in the tank now. She explains that the last ingredient in this potion is the blood of her beloved brother, who's just returned from overseas. She's so excited to see him that she signs or takes photos of him.
