The next morning, the snow dragon arrives at the Pass of the Arrow. He tells the boy that he heard that something was wrong with a sentry post, so he rushed to him from the Pass overnight. The boy tells him that he walked through the entire story, and that it was lucky that the two stars were dead already. The snow dragon tells him to go tell the soldiers to retreat, and then he and the boy will go to the Pass Leader's place to report to Master Lu. They will then go to military camps, where they will get the armor, badge, and helmet. They'll ride snow dragon back to the Arrow, and he'll tell the boy about the conditions of the Pass. He says that it's been a year since he arrived, and now that he's a solid soldier, he better not take the Pass for granted. Everyone must dismount from their rides within a mile around the Pass leader's house, and no one has ever been able to cross the Pass under the guard of the General in these 30 years. He also says that the General is a "gutless wimp" who needs to get out of his sight or he will beat him to the ground.
