In the meantime, the doctor tells the master of the house that his granddaughter, Lan, has gotten a few scratches. She has taken medicine and will soon recover. The master tells the doctor that he will now be the butler at the house. The doctor tells him that he often helps poor people, but he doesn't have the money to live on his own. He asks the master if he would like to live in the house, and the master replies that it is inconvenient for him to move around. He then turns to his sword and says that he needs to refine it. The next day, he says, the magic barrier of the sword is getting weaker. He says he will try his new weapon at a feast at a restaurant. He explains that the sword belongs to his long-lost brother, Lan. The sword shows up in the story because of a magic barrier.
