About This Chapter
In this chapter, the young narrator is introduced to a new character, a girl named Butterfly. She is dressed in a set of bear clothing, which the narrator has prepared for her. He asks her to try them on, and she chooses one of the outfits. He then purchases all of the other outfits and returns them to the narrator. The narrator is happy that he has been able to spend so much money on the outfits, and he is glad that the family has good genes. He is also happy that the money he spent was worth it, because it turns out that all the clothes were a waste. He tells the other students that he is also handsome, and they ask him if he has skipped one of their classes in order to go to the professor's after-work party. He says that he does not, because he has something important to attend to at home. The other students tell him that the professor is raising a puppy, and the narrator wonders if the puppy belongs to him.
