In this chapter, Desdemona asks the ghost to tell her what she would like to drink. The ghost tells her that she is trapped in the mountain spirit, and that only images of the outside world are appearing. She asks him to go and fetch more firewood, and he agrees. He asks why they need to collect firewood everyday, and the ghost explains that it is to start fires, but he is not a human, so he would not know what to do with it. He then tells her about the inside of human beings, and how they have all kinds of food, beds, and tools. He says that he will bring her out to look at what the outside looks like, and she agrees to go.
