In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character, a young woman named Arin, who has just returned from a trip to Europe. She is in love with a young man named Alvan, who is studying in the United States. Arin and Alvan are in the middle of a conversation in which Arin tells Alvan that she is going to stay with a friend for the night. She tells him that she will be returning home soon, and that she wants to see him. When she arrives home, she finds that she has been woken up by the sound of a knock at her door
