This chapter opens with a soliloquy about the importance of keeping one's word. In other words, if you're going to keep your promise, you better keep your word. And if you don't, then you'll be in trouble. In this case, it's the promise of a kami . The kami's job is to protect you from harm, and if you promise to do so, the kami will protect the boy who's supposed to be with you. But if you break your word, the boy will be harmed, too. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. It's not the only thing that can happen to a person who promises to keep his word. There's also the fact that the promise will be broken, and the person who breaks his word will be in danger of losing his job. So, yeah, we've got a lot of work to do.
