About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a flashback to the early days of reform school, when the gang was known as the "black dragons." The narrator tells us that by the time he got out of school, the "9th generation" of the gang had disbanded, and the "10th generation," the "chaotic dance" , had replaced them. The narrator says that he heard that the black dragons had been beaten by the Tokyo Manji gang, and that he's going to "revitalize" the gang. He's got a plan, he says: he'll beat up on the guy who beat him up, and when he beats him, the guy will join the gang, so he can "revirtue the black" with his power. He doesn't know who the guy is, but he says that if he kicked him, he'd have the power to beat him back. He tells the narrator to come with him to the fight, and he tells him to "make it fun" . He says that when he first met the guy, he didn't want to lose to anyone, but when he met the man, he realized that the man was "staggering fine" by him. He plans to reform the black gang in turn, and says that the guy's character has "come back more refined" than ever. He hits the man with the "best punch" he has ever thrown, but the man is "way too over-powered" to respond. The
