The chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter. The narrator tells us that the government has begun using "gangsters" in order to "interfere" with the prostitution business of the brothel owner. The brothel owner tells the narrator that he would not put it past the government to try to "lay a hand" on his family. He asks the narrator if he can help him in his business dealings. He says that he cannot because he is afraid that "commoners" will pull the rug out from under him if he gets involved with "stuff like prostitution" . He adds that the ability to "separate your emotions" from the work is the "difference between kid and adult" , and that's how he and his co-workers separate their emotions from their jobs. He wonders if the underground fight ring is going to host a meeting of the so-called "Brahman" group of fighters today. He notes that rich men watch the fights through the security cameras and place bets on the outcome of the matches. By making bets, these men are building an elite group known as "brahman." The narrator notes that by the time the match is over, the "strongest" among the elite group has dwindled to a small number of fighters who will begin their general meeting. He then announces that the meeting will be held on July 2, the day of the battle of the black dragon.
