In this short scene, the students discuss the mechanics of the experiment they're about to perform. First, they calculate how much energy it will take to destroy the object in front of them. Then, they set the hammer to a certain height and hammer it until it crushes everything in its path. The students are horrified by the idea that they'll have to destroy everything in their path. They're also horrified at the thought that the experiment will be a "penal game" at this point in the game.
