The narrator tells us that it's scary to compare a dead man to sugar. He also says that the group is willing to give up some of their own accords in order to save the company. Just then, taiga arrives with the news that she has saved a lot of money. She's been staying at the house of a friend of hers, and she tells the narrator that she owes him a lot. She also tells him that she's afraid that the family will tear her family apart if she doesn't give up. She says that she wants to know what kind of person her mother was, and that she would like to learn more about her family. She tells him she'll be thrown out of school if she does not give up, but she can't say how she feels about that, because she didn't want to tell him how she felt about the display in Kagoshima. She asks him if he remembers what he said, and he says he does. He says that he feels like he's next in line to live in a world that's "terrifying" . He asks if he can go back to his room and tell his father what's happened, but he says no, he'll just treasure his earrings forever.
