It's the middle of the winter, and it's getting colder outside. The narrator is worried about her kids. She's worried that they're going to freeze up in the cold, and she wants to make sure they don't freeze up. She tells the kids that she's going to stay at her house, even though she'd like to keep them in her house. She also tells them that she loves them both, but she doesn't want to be in love with either one of them. The two of them go into the room, and the narrator asks how they got there. He asks how much of their conversation they had, and they both admit that they didn't really understand what was going on. He says that if someone asked him to choose between them, he wouldn't choose either of them, because they are both so wonderful men. He also says that he's afraid of being "in love" with either of the men, because he'd be too scared to be with them. He tells the boys that he came to get a stamp from the president of the student council, so he could go on the field trip. He's not sure why he came in, but he says he came because he wanted to get the stamp. The students are supposed to go on a field trip, and he needs to get it approved by the president. So he goes to the room to get his stamp. He finds out that the students are both very upset about the situation, and that they want to go back to the house. The boys are so upset that they start yelling at each other, which makes the narrator even more upset. He curses them, and says he'll kill them if they continue to act like this.
