About This Chapter
The narrator begins this chapter by telling us that he's at a party. He's not there to see the girls, but to hang out with his friends. He wants to know what they're up to, but he doesn't know how to ask. He asks one of the girls if she knows about the party, and she says that she doesn. The narrator says that he hates girls like her because he thinks they'll get bored soon, and that's why he tried to keep his feelings to himself. He also says that the other girls at the party chattered about how depressed they were, and he knows he'll be leaving soon. He hears the girls talking, and then he hears the men talking, too. The men are talking about how great the guy is, and how great his brand image is. He thinks that if he were a boss, he'd be yelling at the company about how awesome this guy is. The other men are murmuring, and the narrator thinks that they must be talking about a waitress. He notices that the waitress is touching his chest, and thinks that she must be a prostitute. He wonders why he looks like that.
