About This Chapter
"The ice trap" is the title of this chapter's epigraph. It's a reference to the fact that the protagonist is trapped in an ice-cold room in the middle of nowhere by a wild animal. The ice trap is a metaphor for the way in which the protagonist's life has been disrupted by the arrival of a new species of wild animals. In this chapter, the protagonist realizes that he has been trapped in the ice trap by a "wild animal" . He realizes that the "animal" he's trapped in is a man, and that the man has dragged him into a pool of cold water. The protagonist is horrified by the man's behavior, and he begs the man to come to his rescue. The man, however, refuses to listen to the protagonist, and the protagonist tells him that he is the one who "called him." The protagonist then tells the man, "I'm at the house of a woman who's willing to listen." The man responds by saying, "Um, just a no-second stomp stomp all." He then asks the protagonist if he is in the house with the man who called him "Kurogane," and if he has a boy with him, and if the boy has told his mother that he loves her. The boy, who is called "Scarin," tells the protagonist that his house has been destroyed by a man who wants to "destroy" it. When the protagonist asks the man why he has brought the boy into the house, the man responds that the boy is welcome at his house, but that he wants to return to his own house. When he hears the boy's voice, he realizes that it is not the voice of the boy, but of a "certain someone" who has destroyed his favorite house. The
