In this chapter, Ani and the others return from their field trip, and Ani is worried that they are being followed by an intruder. She asks the others to join her in her hiding place, and they agree to do so. Ani tells the others that she has told her grandma about the party, but that the room where she is hiding is empty. She wonders if there is someone important in the room, and she asks if Ani's mother is there. Ani says she has to protect her kitten, anri, from the intruders.
